Our Team’s Summer Reading List

At Mollard Consulting, summer is more than just sunshine and strategic planning; it’s also a season of reflection, inspiration, and renewal. In 2022, we shared our favorite nonprofit-focused reads. This year, we’re taking a more personal approach.

From soulful memoirs, mind-expanding essays, and comforting fiction, these are the books currently packed in our beach bags and stacked on our nightstands. While the genres may vary, each title offers something meaningful: a new idea, a fresh perspective, or simply the joy of a beautifully told story.

Without further ado, here’s what our team is reading this summer:

Greenlights by Matthew McConaughey A memoir unlike any other, Greenlights is part life guide, part adventure journal, and all heart. One of our team members calls it “a generous reminder to be who you are and love yourself at the same time, no matter what.” If you’re looking to reset your mindset and charge into the rest of the year with confidence and clarity, this one’s for you.

The Nature of Oaks by Douglas W. Tallamy Nature lovers and curious minds alike will find this exploration of oak trees surprisingly captivating. It’s more than just nature; it’s about discovering the entire ecosystem that depends on these trees. As one teammate put it, “it opens your eyes to a world you’ve probably been walking through and missing.”

Housekeeping by Marilynne Robinson Every few years, this literary classic finds its way back into one of our team member’s hands. A story about two girls growing up, Housekeeping is short, often funny, and deeply moving. Robinson’s writing crafts “a deep, cool world of its own,” perfect for getting lost in on a quiet summer evening.

101 Essays That Will Change the Way You Think by Brianna Wiest Summer is a time to declutter, physically, mentally, and spiritually. This collection of essays is the perfect companion for anyone looking to reflect, realign, or simply slow down. It’s a reminder that we’re all human and that being enough doesn’t require perfection.

Infinite Possibilities by Mike Dooley If you’re dreaming bigger this summer, this one’s for you. Infinite Possibilities is an empowering read that challenges you to embrace your thoughts as tools for creating the life you want. A dose of optimism with a side of manifestation.

Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens This novel combines nature with a compelling mystery. It’s perfect for a summer escape into a world where you truly feel the emotions within. “It is impossible to read slowly once you begin immersing yourself within the pages,” said a team member. This story of resilience and solitude will always be a fascinating read.

Let Them by Mel Robbins This new release offers a powerful mindset shift: let people do what they’re going to do and focus on what you can control. It’s an energizing read about reclaiming your power, setting boundaries, and stepping into your own life with intention. Our team member describes this book as an “empowering perspective on how to focus personal energy and efforts on pieces of your life within your control.”

Small Mercies by Dennis Lehane Small Mercies is a gripping, unflinching novel about a mother’s search for her missing daughter, and the painful truths she uncovers along the way. With unforgettable characters and a historical setting like no other, Lehane delivers a story that’s as much about justice and identity as it is about grief and grit. It’s a heavy but powerful read that lingers after you close the book.

Eddie Winston Is Looking for Love by Elliott Kalan This short, heartwarming novel is perfect for anyone craving a little joy. Centered on an endlessly charming story of intergenerational friendship and the search for connection, this read delivers all the feels in just the right dose. As one team member shared, “I’m endlessly sentimental and hopelessly romantic, so this was the perfect escape.”
