Building a Better Board

Mollard Consulting was honored to sponsor the Annual State of Nonprofit Forum at the Columbus Metropolitan Club. In this precarious time for the sector with unprecedented changes in policies and funding, the community gathered to hear from nonprofit leaders.

Our colleagues Dr. B and Dan Sharpe opened the Forum and the dogged Michael Corey facilitated the conversation with Denise Robinson, Julie Fletcher, Tom Schmid, and Joe Gottron. They discussed the challenges they are facing but also the good work and hope that continues to fuel their dedication.

Some of the conversation yesterday included the role of the board and the importance of board members who are engaged. We agree, and it’s a core reason why we created Board Building.

We hear from nonprofit chief executives all the time about the challenges of boards who are not working in constructive partnership with them or who are not clear on their roles and responsibilities. We also hear from board members who never received onboarding and orientation or who feel sidelined by power dynamics. None of these scenarios are healthy but all are solvable.

Board Building provides a unique service to both the nonprofit leader and the prospective board member.

Our team at Mollard Consulting will help nonprofit chief executives, board chairs, and governance committee chairs identify the gaps on their board, creating a board posting that is specific to the skills and expertise needed. We will also work with individuals who are interested in board service to find the right fit. But we won’t stop there. Board Building also includes one year of training and support so that everyone has the knowledge and coaching they need to be successful.

The goal of Board Building is to build capacity. We stand shoulder to shoulder with all nonprofit chief executives, board members, and prospective board members as they advocate for and advance their missions and impact.

Together, we can build better boards, more effective nonprofits, and more supported communities.

Board Building is being introduced this summer, with matches made in the fall. Let us know today if you are interested in joining this innovative new offer. We look forward to serving you.
