“When you have more than you need, build a longer table, not a higher fence.”
An invitation is powerful. It says to the recipient that you enjoy their company and you are interested in them, their well-being, and their conversation.
An invitation can bridge divides. We ask others to share their ideas and listen to our own, all while creating a new level of understanding or agreement. When we extend a request for dialogue, we build community.
Or, as happens all too often, we further separate ourselves from those who think or look differently than we do by putting up walls and creating barriers.
I value the former and wish we had much less of the latter.
We will move closer to deepening our understanding of each other and our community’s needs on August 28, 2019 when The Columbus Foundation hosts The Big Table, a community-wide conversation.
You are invited… to host, attend, or support by sharing the invitation with others.
If you want to host a conversation, sign up on the The Columbus Foundation’s website and invite guests. If you want to attend a conversation, sign up to join one of the public conversations at a library or any number of locations listed on the website. Mollard Consulting will be hosting a Big Table, and we’d love to have you join us.
The topic — improving the future of Columbus and Central Ohio — is broad and has no formal agendas or structured questions. The goal is to facilitate conversations that connect and inspire. This video illustrates the impact of coming together.
Your presence and your thoughts matter.
All are welcome. The table is long.
