A Year in Review: Our Top Articles from 2024

We began publishing an annual list of our top ten most read articles in 2020. As we ring in 2025, we want to reflect on the messages you found most interesting and inspiring from last year. The following list of articles received the most engagement over 2024.

  1. Policies Impacting the Future of Nonprofit Work

Our most read column was a guest feature by Elizabeth Brown, President and CEO of YWCA. Elizabeth wrote about federal programming and policies implemented since the COVID-19 pandemic and the impact of their expiration in 2023.

2. Power + Nonprofit Boards Part One

Next up is part one of a two part series written by Kerri Mollard, Power + Nonprofit Boards. Part one discusses power dynamics within a board between members and the chief executive. In this article, Kerri also provided information regarding a constructive partnership and reflection questions to consider surrounding your own nonprofit board.

3. Most Fundraisers have been Sexually Harassed. Here’s How Nonprofits can Address the Problem.

Third on the list focused on ground-breaking research on sexual harassment in the fundraising industry from Dr. Erynn Beaton and Dr. Megan LePere-Schloop of the John Glenn College of Public Affairs at Ohio State. As this research is of utmost importance in the nonprofit sector, we felt it necessary to share a past guest column from Dr. Erynn Beaton, to resurface this important topic.

4. The Power of Gratitude: Amplifying Nonprofit Impact

Taking the fourth spot is “The Power of Gratitude: Amplifying Nonprofit Impact” a guest column by Brandy Jemczura, Founder and Executive Director of Seeds of Caring. Her article brings us a discussion on gratitude and its impact on a nonprofit’s work. She shares the ways in which it can be implemented as well as how her team at Seeds of Caring brings gratitude into their day-to-day.

5. Building a Campaign Gift Chart

“Building a Campaign Gift Chart” is a great tool for you and your organization. Kerri Mollard wrote this article as part of a fundraising fundamental series to provide organizations with tools to help achieve their goals throughout the year. This article provides an example campaign gift chart along with the explanation of how and why an organization utilizes it in their work.

6. 12 Campaign Beliefs

We shared our 12 campaign beliefs that our team has learned throughout extensive work on capital campaigns. This article provides 12 insights to consider while in the deliberation and decision-making process of a capital campaign. We hope these beliefs are helpful when involved in such an important and impactful season for an organization.

7. Power + Nonprofit Board Part Two

The seventh spot brings us back to our Power + Nonprofit Board series. Part Two continued the conversation of power dynamics by introducing the important research in sexual harassment completed by Dr. Erynn Beaton and Dr. Megan LePere-Schloop. This article also provides reflection questions to consider when thinking about your own nonprofit board.

8. Drawing a Direct Connection Between Philanthropy and Brand Purpose

Michelle Adams, president and founder of PRISM Marketing and co-founder of 5KforJK, takes the eighth spot with her guest column. In her article, Michelle discusses her experience with 5KforJK – a local nonprofit that helps provide education, resources, and services to people living with Parkinson’s disease. She discusses the importance of a clearly defined brand and purpose for an organization’s employee engagement, customer loyalty, and profits.

9. Meet the Mollard Team Part One

As the title suggests, this column introduced each member of the Mollard Consulting team. This two part series was a fun way to share who each member is, their experience in the nonprofit sector and with Mollard, and to get to know a bit more about them outside of the office.

10. 2024 Nonprofit Sector Resolutions

Rounding out our top 10 list is 2024 Nonprofit Sector Resolutions. Since 2020, our company has had a tradition to offer nonprofit sector resolutions (revisit them here: 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023), and we continued with cautious optimism for 2024. This article highlighted what we believed to be three important themes for the year: Support Your Chief Executive, Stand for Your Mission, and No Tolerance for Hate.

We are committed to serving as a partner to the nonprofit community. The columns we write and publish are designed to build capacity. We thank our guest columnists, and we thank you for reading, commenting, and sharing.

As we continue planning for content this year, we invite you to share your feedback on the topics you’d like us to cover and the voices you’d like to hear from in 2025. Drop your comments below.
